Detroit Celebrates 160 Years of Vernors with Community Block Party

06/23/2026

Detroit came together on Sunday, June 14, 2026 to celebrate a true hometown icon—Vernors Ginger Ale—marking its 160th anniversary. Held in the city’s historic Eastern Market district, the block party drew thousands of fans for an afternoon of nostalgia, flavor and community pride.

“For 160 years, Vernors has been deeply woven into the fabric of Detroit, and moments like this are a powerful reminder of that legacy,” said Brad Rakes, Vice President of Brand Marketing at Keurig Dr Pepper. “We’re proud to steward a brand that continues to inspire such strong community connection and cultural relevance across generations.”

A True Detroit Celebration

The event, organized by the Vernors’ Collector’s Club with support from local businesses, transformed Riopelle Street into a vibrant celebration of one of America’s oldest soda brands. The setting underscored Vernors’ Detroit roots, where pharmacist James Vernor first served the now-iconic ginger ale to the public in 1886.

Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed a variety of Vernors-inspired tastings – including classic Boston Coolers and a Cream Ale tasting station – alongside immersive brand experiences, historical exhibits and limited-edition keepsakes. Local restaurants, distilleries and small businesses joined in with themed menus and custom cocktails, culminating in a community-wide toast honoring 160 years of Vernors.

An Icon That Still Brings People Together

Now part of the Keurig Dr Pepper family, Vernors continues to hold a special place in beverage history—and in the hearts of fans who have grown up with it. This year’s celebration was more than a milestone; it was a reminder that brands rooted in culture and tradition can still feel as relevant today as they did generations ago.
